On Sunday, March 26th, the Women’s Premier League’s first season came to a close, with the Mumbai Indians claiming victory over the Delhi Capitals in a thrilling final at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, Mumbai Indians made history by becoming the first team to win India’s premier women’s T20 competition.Delhi Capitals opted to bat first but struggled to make an impact, only scoring 131/9 in the first innings. Issy Wong and Hayley Matthews played a pivotal role in breaking the back of Delhi’s batting lineup, taking three wickets each. However, Shikha Pandey and Radha Yadav’s 52-run partnership for the last wicket helped Delhi reach a more competitive total.

In response, Mumbai Indians lost their openers early and were reeling at 23/2 after 3.4 overs. A 62-run partnership between Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt gave Mumbai hope, but Kaur’s run-out in the 17th over left the game wide open. Mumbai needed 37 runs from 23 balls, but Nat Sciver-Brunt kept her cool and played a brilliant knock of 60* off 55 balls, leading her team to victory with three balls to spare.
As Mumbai made history by winning the inaugural WPL title, the tournament also recognized individual achievements. Check out the list of award winners, prize money, and top stats from the WPL.
