However, Buttler manages to get a single off the second ball. Yashasvi Jaiswal plays the third ball with a positive mindset and scores a couple of runs. Unfortunately, Jaiswal’s innings comes to an end as he mistimes his shot, resulting in a high ball that Shivam Dube catches comfortably. Rajasthan Royals are now at 11 for 1 after 1.4 overs.

Back to back boundaries from Padikkal

Maheesh Theekshana starts the attack and Padikkal hits a single to give Buttler the strike. Buttler hits the second ball for a run. Padikkal impressively gets a boundary with a cover drive. The next ball is edged for another boundary. Two different shots with the same result. RR has 22/1 after 3 overs.

Padikkal and Buttler stitch together a 50-run partnership

It’s Ravindra Jadeja who will be delivering the seventh over, but unfortunately, he begins with a poor start by giving away five wides. Jos Buttler manages to take a single off the next delivery, and then Devdutt Padikkal comes back on strike and also takes a single. However, the extras keep piling up in this over as the following ball is also wide. The fourth delivery is a good one as Padikkal attempts a swing and a miss, and the ball goes straight to MS Dhoni behind the stumps. These two batsmen have brought up their 50 partnership. After 7 overs, the score for Rajasthan Royals stands at 68/1.

Double sixes by Buttler

In the eighth over of the match, Moeen Ali was brought in to bowl. Padikkal struck the second delivery high and managed to score three runs off it. The next two deliveries only yielded singles. However, the fifth delivery was bowled short and Buttler took full advantage of it by hitting it out of the ground for a six. Not stopping there, he repeated the feat on the next delivery as well, sending another short ball out of the park for an even bigger six. With these back-to-back sixes, the score for Rajasthan Royals reached 86/1 after eight overs.

Jadeja strikes, dismissed Padikkal

He dismissed Devdutt Padikkal after conceding only two runs from the first ball of the over. Padikkal was caught by Devon Conway on the third ball.

After the dismissal, Rajasthan Royals were at 88/2 after 8.3 overs. Jadeja has taken 10 wickets so far in the IPL 2023 season and is a key player for Chennai Super Kings.
Jadeja snaps up Sanju Samson also

Jadeja has once again made a significant impact, bringing Chennai back into the game as Rajasthan Royals’ captain, Sanju Samson, attempts to defend. Unfortunately, the ball moves away, giving the batter very little time to react, resulting in his stumps being knocked over. At this point, Rajasthan Royals have scored 88/3 after 8.5 overs.

Economical from Jadeja

Jadeja is up for bowling the 11th over and he’s off to a good start with two consecutive dot balls. Ashwin seems to be playing it safe and not taking any risks. Only two runs were scored in this over as Jadeja manages to restrict the flow of runs. The current score stands at 97/3 after 11 overs.

100 up for RR

Magala is bowling his second over for CSK’s 12th. RR scores 1 run in the first two deliveries. Ashwin takes a single from Buttler’s strike and RR reaches 100. Score after 12 overs: RR 104/3.

Ashwin hits a boundary after long last

In the 14th over, Theekshana takes the ball and the batsmen attempt a quick run, but Moeen Ali’s throw is off-target and Dhoni misses the ball. Ashwin capitalizes on the opportunity and manages to score a boundary, which relieves some of the pressure. Despite the missed run-out, RR’s score stands at a respectable 119/3 after 14 overs.

Ashwin out after 2 Sixes

Akash Singh delivered the 15th over, and Jos Buttler handed over the strike to Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin, who had been waiting for a long time, smashed a massive six off the second ball. He followed it up with another six that cleared the boundary comfortably. Akash then bowled two great deliveries, but Ashwin attempted another big shot, and unfortunately, sliced the ball. Magala positioned himself well and took a comfortable catch, resulting in Ashwin’s departure after trying to hit a few too many shots. Rajasthan Royals had a score of 135/4 after 15 overs.

Half century for Buttler

The 16th over begins with Theekshana bowling, and Buttler manages to score two runs, completing his half-century. Theekshana’s over yields only six runs, bringing an end to his spell for the night. At the end of 16 overs, the team’s score stands at 141/4.

Sloppy Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali struggled as a slip fielder in a recent match, missing two catches and a run-out opportunity. Despite having the skilled Ajinkya Rahane on the field, captain MS Dhoni kept Moeen in place. In addition to the fielding mishaps, Moeen gave away 18 runs in his first over, with Jos Buttler hitting two sixes. The spin-friendly conditions could have been better utilized by Ashwin and Chahal, possibly with the inclusion of Adam Zampa.

Moeen Ali dismissed Buttler

Moeen Ali strikes in the 17th over, dismissing Buttler as he misses the ball and shatters the stumps. This is a much-needed breakthrough for Chennai Super Kings, with Rajasthan Royals at 142/5 after 16.2 overs.

Hetmyer started hitting

Tushar Deshpande takes charge of the 18th over, allowing only a single run from the first two deliveries. Porel adds another single, and Hetmyer takes the strike. Rajasthan Royals will rely on him to finish the innings with a bang. As if on cue, Deshpande bowls a full toss, and Hetmyer capitalizes by hitting a six! Deshpande feels the pressure and throws a wide next, followed by four more runs to end the over. Rajasthan Royals now stand at 157/5 after 18 overs.

Porel out

With the match nearing its end, Akash Singh bowls the penultimate over and starts with a good performance. However, Hetmyer manages to hit a six on a full toss, and Porel falls to a simple catch on the following delivery. RR use their review, but it goes in vain as they lose it along with the wicket. As the 19th over ends, RR’s score stands at 167/6.

176 to win for CSK

It’s Tushar Deshpande to bowl the final over. Hetmyer hits a fantastic shot through the line and scores a four! He follows it up with two more runs and retains the strike. On the next delivery, Hetmyer attempts a similar shot but misses, resulting in a single. Holder comes on strike for the remaining two balls, but he is dismissed on the first ball as he fails to clear the field. Conway takes the catch. Zampa replaces Buttler, and although a catch is dropped, it results in a single run. With that, Rajasthan Royals finish their innings at 175/8 after 20 overs.

Chennai Super Kings innings

Decent start for CSK

Sandeep Sharma stared the bowling attack, and we have Gaikwad and Conway as the opening pair for CSK. There’s a big appeal right away for an LBW, but it seems like nobody is too keen on it. The next delivery is lofted into the air, creating a chance, but the ball lands safely. After the first over, CSK has scored 7/0.

Conway takes initiative

In the penultimate over of the powerplay, with Zampa taking the ball for the current over. Rahane faces the first delivery and manages only a dot ball. Zampa slows down the pace on the next ball and Rahane again fails to get it away, resulting in another dot. Rahane then manages to get a single off the third ball, bringing Conway on strike. Conway executes a beautiful sweep shot on the fourth ball, sending the ball through deep fine for a four. He repeats the same shot on the fifth ball, but this time Sandeep drops him, and to make matters worse for the bowler, it goes for a boundary as well. As a result, the score stands at 35/1 for CSK after 5 overs.

Rahane smashed a six to Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin takes the ball to bowl the last over of the powerplay. Rahane manages to hit the ball over the inner circle, resulting in a couple of runs for CSK. However, the third ball is smashed out of the park for a massive six by Rahane, which elicits cheers from the crowd. This incredible shot pushes CSK’s score to 45/1 after 6 overs.

50 up for CSK

Yuzvendra Chahal is brought into the attack now and he begins with two dot balls, putting some pressure on the CSK batsmen. However, he concedes two runs from the next two deliveries. Preet, who has been playing quite well so far, seems to have found his balance at the crease, except for a four he had hit which helped bring up Chennai’s 50. After 7 overs, CSK’s score stands at 52/1.

Zampa conceded 15 Run

Zampa steps up to bowl the ninth over as the CSK batsmen continue to score with singles and doubles. Rahane adds a boundary to sweeper cover, keeping the momentum going. However, the umpire signals 2 wides after a review by CSK. As a result, the score now stands at 76/1 after 9 overs.

Ashwin dismissed Rahane

Ashwin steps up to bowl the 10th over and delivers a massive appeal for LBW on the third ball. The umpire raises his finger, and despite the opportunity to review, Chennai chooses not to do so. Rahane begrudgingly exits the field, marking a significant breakthrough for Rajasthan. After 9.3 overs, CSK now sits at 78/2.

Very good over by kuldeep

Kuldeep Sen has returned to the attack, and Conway manages to secure a single off the first delivery. The Rajasthan fielders seem to be performing excellently, as evidenced by the next two balls yielding just two runs. So far, this over appears to be a successful one, with only five runs being scored. To conclude the over, Conway collects another single. CSK 86/2 After 11 overs.

Dube out

Ashwin begins the 12th over with two dot balls as Dube misses both of them. On the third delivery, Dube manages to hit a four, finally finding his touch. However, on his next attempt, he is caught and dismissed. Dube leaves the field, and CSK’s score stands at 92/3 after 11.4 overs.

Tight over by Chahal

In the 13th over, Yuzvendra Chahal took charge of the bowling and Moeen Ali managed to score only two runs off the first two deliveries. The following two deliveries yielded just one run each. At the end of the over, CSK’s score stood at 102/4 after 13.5 overs.

Conway out after scoring 50

Devon Conway has reached a score of 50, making him a key player for Chennai to rely on as they try to secure a victory. However, as I was in the process of writing this, Conway hit a high shot and was subsequently caught out by Jaiswal. This allowed Mahendra Singh Dhoni to step up and take his place on the field. At this point in the game, Chennai’s score stands at 113/6 after 15 overs.

Dhoni came to bat

Ravichandran Ashwin delivered the 16th over and so far, he has taken two wickets in two deliveries. MS Dhoni has just scored a single and the crowd erupts in cheers every time he is up to bat. Ashwin bowls another single, making it a great over. The Chennai Super Kings now have a score of 117/6 after 16 overs.

Another good over from Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal steps up to deliver the 17th over, and the batsmen manage to score three singles off his first three deliveries. With the need to increase the scoring rate, one of the batsmen needs to start hitting big. Ravindra Jadeja tries to sweep, but he misses the ball, resulting in another single. This time it’s a bye. The CSK have a total of 122/6 after 17 overs.

Dhoni turns it on

Zamapa bowled the crucial 18th over, and the crowd is on their feet as the first ball is hit for four. The next delivery is a single, but the tension builds as Dhoni steps up and hits a massive six! Zampa is clearly feeling the pressure. The score now stands at 136/6 for CSK after 18 overs.

Jadeja’s sixes kept Chennai alive in the hunt

With Chennai requiring 40 runs from just 12 balls, the pressure was on as Jason Holder prepared to bowl the 19th over. Ravindra Jadeja faced the first delivery, but unfortunately, he swung and missed. He managed to take a single on the next ball, leaving MS Dhoni on strike. Holder bowled an excellent delivery, and Dhoni was only able to take a single as well. However, Jadeja managed to hit a lovely shot off the third ball, sending it for four runs and keeping CSK in the game.

To make matters worse for Holder, he bowled a wide on the next delivery and had to bowl it again. This time, Jadeja heaved the ball away in the leg side for a six, further reducing the required runs. Holder managed to recover with a brilliant delivery for a dot on the next ball, but Jadeja smashed the final ball of the over for another six, keeping Chennai’s hopes alive. As the over ended, CSK’s score stood at 155/6 after 19 overs.

However, he manages to recover and deliver an excellent ball for a dot. The following delivery is a poor one, allowing Dhoni to hit a flat six. Sandeep then delivers another full toss, which Dhoni dispatches for another six, bringing Chennai very close to victory with just seven needed from three balls. Dhoni takes a single on the next ball, leaving the onus on Jadeja to finish the game. Sandeep bowls a brilliant delivery, leaving Chennai needing a six to win. However, Dhoni only manages a single off the last ball, resulting in a narrow victory for Rajasthan.

What MS Dhoni Said after the CSK vs RR match

“I think in the middle we needed a bit more strike rotation, there wasn’t much for the spinners but they had experienced spinners and we could not rotate strike. It was not that difficult and the ownership (of the loss) should come from the batters. It was good that we could reach striking distance (of the target) as we were the last pair. It really affects NRR when you get to the last phase of the tournament. You see the field, see the bowler and what the bowler is trying to do, after that just stand still and wait for them to commit the mistake, if they bowl in good areas then good luck to them. I would wait for it and that is something which has worked for me, you need to back your strength and my strength is to hit straight. There was a bit of dew and once the ball went to the outfield it became easier for the batters. Overall I was very happy with the bowlers. I really didn’t know it was my 200th (game as CSK skipper) and milestones don’t really matter for me, it is about how you’re performing and the results.”
